A Home For Indian Children

Indian children come to Oaks because they have nowhere else to go!
Some are orphaned or abandoned. Others are unwanted or abused. And many come from loving homes where the parents and grandparents simply are not able to give their children the food, clothing, security, and education they need.
The children's needs are simple and basic love, food, shelter, clothing, encouragement, support, understanding, and the opportunity to go to school.
These three to 18 year old children are bright, loveable and intelligent, with a proud and noble heritage.
The present capacity of Oaks is 48 children. Children live in cottages where cottage parents and their families become a “family” on a 24 hour basis, seven days a week.
Living within Oaks' “preventative approach" to childcare, young people find meaning, direction, and hope for their lives. Their sense of security, self-worth, and responsibility for their own lives grows markedly.
Many earn high school diplomas. Some go on to vocational school and college. They have become doctors, contractors, ranchers, nurses, schoolteachers, social workers, counselors, college professors, carpenters, police officers… the whole range of vocations and professions.
Values learned while at Oaks enable them to lead meaningful lives as adults, setting examples for others and giving leadership in society.
Most important, they learn how to be a family. Thus their children have no need of Oaks’ ministry, so Oaks never sees the second generation.
