Oaks Indian Mission strives to help make the community a better place for people to live.
The Mission School became the Public School in 1938 (officially named Oaks Mission School) and now enrolls 475 students (90% Indian) and serves the educational needs of Indian children.
Eben Ezer Lutheran Church provides congregational ministries to the Children’s Home and the wider community. The pastor of the congregation also serves as Chaplain to the children and staff.
Housing for Senior Citizens is available through the Red Bud Community, an outgrowth of the Mission’s efforts.
The Mission worked with the Cherokee Nation
- to establish a W.I.C. program for young children and expectant mothers,
- to set up a food program for underprivileged members of the community,
- to create a community park to provide wholesome recreational activities for those in and around Oaks,
- to obtain the services of a Cherokee Nation Federal Marshall to provide police services for the area.
